Caen Hill Locks is an impressive flight of 29 locks. The locks were designed by engineer John Rennie as a solution to climbing the very steep hill in Devizes. The locks are situated on the final stretch of the 87-mile route of the Kennet & Avon Canal. Unusually large side ponds store the water needed to operate the flight, proving a popular spot for boaters and walkers. After completing the climb, visitors often indulge in a cup of coffee and slice of cake in the Caen Hill Café. The café is located in a picturesque position at the top of the lock flight.
At just 1.6 miles (8 minutes’ drive) from Mill Farm Glamping, we highly recommend enjoying an invigorating climb up the locks at Caen Hill. You may feel a bit achy afterwards, though!
